TME - Updated 09/20/2007 - As I was concerned about, regulation in response to this story is now being considered in Australia. A federal liberal senator, Guy Barnett, wants to restrict publicly funded IVF by banning single woman and lesbian couples. See link below for more information:

TME - In what will likely be a landmark case in Australia, a couple is suing their doctor for impregnating them with twins. It sounds like an actual mistake did occur; I am curious to see how the Court rules. What are your thoughts?
MSNBC posted a story that explains the background of her claim:
Austalian Woman Seeks $332,000 to Cover Cost of Raising Extra Child CANBERRA, Australia - An Australian woman who gave birth to twins instead of a single baby after receiving in-vitro fertilization has sued her doctor for the cost of bringing up the second child.
The woman, who cannot be identified because of a court order, is seeking more than 400,000 Australian dollars (US $332,000) to cover the expense of raising one child until age 21.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports as follows:
An IVF doctor swore in horror after he mistakenly implanted two embryos into a woman who only wanted one baby, a Canberra court was told during a landmark case.
In the first case of its kind in Australia, a lesbian couple is suing prominent Canberra obstetrician Dr Sydney Robert Armellin for more than $400,000 in the ACT Supreme Court for implanting two embryos instead of the requested one.
The procedure, which used sperm from a Danish donor, resulted in the birth of twin baby girls, who are now aged three.
Their mothers, whose combined income is almost $120,000, want $398,000 to cover the costs of raising one of the girls, including fees for a private Steiner school in Melbourne.
