Wired Magazine - Why Things Suck? Specifically, IVF Treatments….

As I was reading my monthly Wired magazine, which I truly enjoy for its information, I can across the following article:

It really shocked me, as it was a very negative piece. I know that the author may have had some bad experiences, but I do not like the fact that they “kind of” gave medical advice stating that it is better to use Clomid than do an IVF cycle - they did not address the fact that is not an option for everyone. Plus, they stated that it rarely works - boy, I am shocked as that is not my professional and personal experience. What do you think?

The article is very biased; throwing a very negative outlook on IVF and other procedures that an infertile couple may use in order to tackle their infertility problems. But if you ask couples who have a “complete” family because of IVF, the pain and risks will seem negligible when compared to the happiness and satisfaction they experience.
It is a fact that the success rate of IVF is around 40 to 50%. But the present development in this field has doubled and tripled the success rates. Various techniques such as Comparative Genomic Hybridisation (CGH) and Acupuncture have raised the success rate about 65 and 70% respectively.
It is a known fact that there are many risks and side effects involved with IVF but the advantages of these procedures outweighs the disadvantages. Therefore we find many willing to undergo IVF to fulfill their dream of having children who are biologically their own come true.
I think we have no right to undermine their hopes and dreams. Prejudiced views such as the one revealed in this article do not provide any solutions to the issues yet insult the needy couples for holding on to their wishes, dreams and efforts of a complete family.
