I think her 10 yr old daughter is going to be devastated when she is told that her father is not her "biological" father. She adores her father and he tries to give her stability in her life. Her mother, my niece, thinks she is raising her properly, but can not say "no" to this child. I look for disaster looming on the horizon. I think Dr. Seuss’s suggestion in her book “Horton Hatches the Egg” is very appropriate. By saying “Mom had a helper” the facts can be disclosed in a sensitive manner. Personally, if I were a parent that resorted for a sperm or egg donor to have a child, I would not feel comfortable disclosing information about my child’s biological origins unless there is a real need to do the same as in the risk for developing certain health conditions that has a strong family predisposition.
